Welcome to Mac-Nutrition 2.0! As you will have seen the blog is more empty than it was previously. I have done this on purpose so that both old and new visitors alike will read the updates and new content (like this post) first!
New content will be uploaded to the site by the hour initially, then every single day for a short while. New posts, new articles, new recipes etc! If you visit one of these pages and find it interesting, please do leave a comment or share it via the available buttons. I'm keen to hear peoples thoughts on the new site and content, not only constructive criticism but also things that you like so I can make sure I do it more! I'm getting to the point where time management is key so if people aren't reading, enjoying, using certain things on the site I can phase them out and focus on other areas. So, use the comments and sharing buttons as your bell to Pavlov's dog…
So, a quick summary of what you can find and what you will be getting from Mac-Nutrition 2.0!
SEARCH FUNCTION
So simple yet so important. All too often I had people tweeting me asking where 'that blog about XYZ' was. They had seen me write something previously and then went back to find it but couldn't. Well, at least now you can find things I write on the website quickly and easily but if it was a tweet or facebook post… I can't help you!
There is also the 'Tag Cloud' in the right hand side bar that has tags from various blog posts. This will expand over time as new blogs are posted. The bigger the word is, the more posts there are about it. Neat huh?
As well as the Facebook and Twitter icons, there is also the orange RSS icon. By clicking this you can get updates of new blogs directly to your RSS reader or Email inbox. If you are not famiiliar with RSS feeds you also simply have the option of subscribing ot the blog via email subscription. Simply enter your email address into the space provided on the individual blog pages. This does not subscribe you to the newsletter.
BLOG
Research Updates
A regular feature that has been requested is short blogs on interesting research. These will either be articles that I am using for a piece of writing that I think will be of interest to readers or they will be research hot off the press. Where possible I will try to give a quick laymens breakdown of the research as well as a including the reference and abstract for those who want to do further reading. The Research Updates will also have their own tag on the website so you can get all the research updates in one place with a simple click. Try clicking here: Research Updates. On that note, wherever you see a word underlined like that, you can click it to take you to a page relating to it.
Blogs on current topics
These blogs will resemble what Mac-Nutrition regulars will be used to. Blogs on topics that come up in the media or business/people I encounter in the world of nutrition, training and health. Some will interest you, some may really not but I'll just pretend you're reading them…
Blog Articles
I spent a while deliberating the need for articles on the website however, it seemed a good idea to give certain blogs 'Article' status. Blogs that are an in-depth analysis of one particular topic will generally be added to the articles section. They will generally include plenty of references and minimal 'ranting' from myself. Remember, if you feel you know a lot about a particular subject be it a food, supplement, training methodology, please feel free to get in contact to submit an article. Practitioners who want to generate some traffic to their website or get their work displayed can include biographies and a link to their website if they wish. This website attracts readers of all walks of life so please do not think you need to write something super technical. One of the main criticisms I get is that the things I write are too advanced even after I feel like I've explained every single abbreviation and technical term. I also don't write a whole lot on training anymore so there are lots of gaps left to be filled there too!
COMMENTS and TWITTER, FACEBOOK and GOOGLE+ BUTTONS
A lot of the pages and posts on the website now have the ability to comment on them at the bottom. This was one of the main reasons I decided to update the website. Having comments spread around facebook and twitter isn't overly coherent so now they are all in one place. I hope you will be able to comment using a number of different logins including but not limited to facebook and twitter but you can create a new profile using the Disqus comments platform I am using. Please feel free to highlight spelling mistakes or errors within the page as I know my slackness in this area annoys some of you… but also use it to ask questions to just say you enjoyed reading it. There is also the ability to like, tweet and G+ a page directly from within that page.
With regards to the comments, there is a post up where, those of you who attended the conference, can ask questions relating to what you heard.
RECIPE PAGES
This is a big new addition to the website that never even came to fruition on Mac-Nutrition 1.0. The different sections will be regularly updated with new options and there is the option to submit your own recipes too as with the articles section. However, here there is NO technical knowledge required. If you make something and it tastes good… providing you haven't filled it with margarine or sugar, it will no doubt fit somewhere on the website! Easy to make recipes are always a winner but tasty meals that take longer to prepare are also great for those on a long term eating plan! Thinking about it… I may even run a competition! What would be the prize?
ABOUT SECTION
The about section of the website has been updated to give a little background about what I've done and projects I am currently working on. This is perhaps of more interest to those in, or wanting to get into the industry. Other than that its just me celebrating that I'm actually managing to find and do (paid) work despite spending most of my life updating this website and tweeting non stop.
IN THE PIPELINE
Forum
I'm still deciding as to whether to include a forum on the website. Thoughts on this would be welcomed. I'd prefer comments and questions on pages but at the same time forums have their own unique benefits for people. For example, being able to keep a training log, progress photos etc as well as posting things of interest whether they are on or off topic. Let me know what you guys think one way or another. If you wouldn't use it… say so
Video Q&A
Here is another area I would like your feedback on. I am considering having a section on the website for Video Answers. If any of you ever watched the 'Old Spice' viral YouTube campaign where Isaiah Mustafa would personally answer peoples tweets you'll know what I mean… although to begin with I'll be doing it with my shirt on sitting on a chair, not a horse. The reason for this a) for the personal touch b) because some people like to watch, not read c) if I get good at it, it might save me time and d) because sometimes seeing facial expressions and body language are useful when answering questions with multiple, equally correct answers! So, thoughts? Do you like to read or watch? I could wear a paper bag if my face offends you.
So, there you have it! Mac-Nutrition 2.0 is born! As I said, new content is scheduled to appear on the site intermittently today and over the weekend! Enjoy!
For the time being, there are two posts to read before getting into the the nutrition stuff! The first is mainly for people new to Mac-Nutrition and the second is a bit of a declaration of intent.
