Absoutely disgusting. The American Dietetics Association

Updated from the archives:

The American Dietetics Association (ADA) is considered by some the most influential nutritional organisation in the world. It is certainly one of the wealthiest and what the ADA does, the British Dietetics Association soon follows which is why I choose to highlight things like this.

So the news that has come to my attention today is really quite shocking… and I hope you feel the same… it essentially shows why you can simply never trust a die hard dietitian. It may not be their fault but what this article shows is that you simply cannot trust their governing body. Asking for nutrition advice from a die hard ADA dietitian is like asking for religious advice from a member of the Taliban.

So, what's the big news? Well, here it is

Registered dietitians (RDs) are now being given formal education by the Coca-Cola Company on how safe its ingredients are.

Apparently, the credentialing arm of the ADA, the 'Commission on Dietetic Registration' (CDR), has approved a program created by the The Coca-Cola Company Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness.

What is going on in the world?! Can you say 'CONFLICT OF INTEREST'????

If you want the full story, you can click HERE but I have taken some snippets out for you below. Apparently RDs will be able to claim CPD points for attending the education sessions which will look at, what it calls "urban myths" about the safety of food ingredients…. specifically ingredients in coke!"

Here is essentially the crux of the issue:

Children's Dietary Recommendations: When Urban Myths, Opinions, Parental Perceptions & Evidence Collide…

tells dietitians that fluoride, sugar, artificial colours and non-nutritive sweeteners have been…

carefully examined for their effects on children's health, growth, and development.

The presenter, Dr. Ronald Kleinman…

explores prevalent misconceptions about these food ingredients…

and suggests ways the dietitian can help quell unnecessary…

concern among parents about their children's health.

Its worth knowing that Dr. Kleinman has received a great deal of money from artificial infant formula manufacturers Mead Johnson and Nestle Ltd. has received grants from Gerber Products and was a paid expert witness for Gerber when they were sued for deceptive advertising. He has also written for the Sugar Association. I'll say again, can you say 'CONFLICT OF INTEREST'??

Seriously! What is going on? When did the world get so greedy that it was acceptable to be so public about accepting money from someone who has a vested interest in making money at the expense of the health of others!?

As if it wasn't bad enough that the ADA accept 'sponsorship' from: Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, General Mills and Kellogg's, Mars, and Unilever (the multinational corporation that owns many of the world's consumer products brands in foods and beverages). Now they are letting the sponsors run education sessions as to why their products aren't going to kill people! Imagine the British Medical Association was sponsored by Tabacco manufacturers and allowed them to educate doctors as to why smoking wasn't harmful to health!?

This kind of thing just kills me. When there are genuine questions to be answered in the world of nutrition and instead we'll now have to convince people that sugar is indeed bad because their NHS dietitian will be saying "No no, I went on a CPD course recently and apparently that is just a myth. Coca Cola is actually low in fat therefore can be consumed as part of healthy balanced diet."

Please share this article on Facebook and Twitter and help people realise that if they truly want to improve their health through nutrition….they'll need to do more than listen to mainstream advice! Although I believe most of us can eat a 'healthy balanced diet' and be just alright, the definition of a balanced diet is being skewed, leading to people thinking there must be more because their 'balanced' diet [ultra low in cholesterol (eggs), saturated fat (butter, olive oil, red meat) and total fat (nuts) and high in 'whole'grains (coco pops, wholemeal bread), fibre (wholemeal pasta) and fruit (fruit juices)] is just making them more sick (fatter, higher blood pressure, bad cholesterol).

Martin, I feel your pain. I used to laugh at how bad the situation is but after the last few years seeing A LOT of sick people it makes me angry and upset. So here's the question – what are we going to do about it? Create some CPD courses for doctors that tell the truth and address proper nutrition? It's a start…

CPD courses for Doctors would be the way forward… http://eattotreat.org/ all the way!!
