“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas Edison

This quote is at the top of the ‘Goals’ page of a new initiative I am on the advisory board for: Move. Eat. Treat.

Move. Eat. Treat. aims to make lifestyle advice a core theme in healthcare education. This is truly revolutionary. Imagine doctors being taught about the true benefits of nutrition in preventative care. Read the following:

The Move. Eat. Treat. campaign aims to promote the importance of preventative medicine. Our goal is to make lifestyle advice a core theme in healthcare education at an undergraduate level and beyond. This will equip healthcare professionals to deliver effective lifestyle advice, creating a true health service, which is proactive rather than reactive, allowing people to live healthier, happier lives.

Now I think this could be big! Which is why I’m asking that you support it. All you need to do is sign the petition on the homepage: http://www.moveeattreat.org/ This may seem trivial and therefore you might not do it….. but this has to start somewhere! This initiative is not trying to be extremist, it is simply trying to provide adequate training for healthcare professionals so that they can act in a preventative, proactive way rather than simply being reactive. To give them the ability to not freak out when they hear the term ‘low carb’ or ‘paleo’ but instead to be able to evaluate their appropriateness.

Move. Eat. Treat. has created some amazing infographics to explain the problem this country is facing!
